Karachi: Jazib Qureshi is a truly exceptional poet, who has given a new diction to Ghazal and continues to make sincere strivings to promote Urdu in Pakistan and abroad, remarked Engr. Z.A. Nizami, Chancellor Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology (SSUET) in his presidential address at the launching ceremony of Qureshi’s book “Meri Shairee Meri Musavvari”.
Engr. Muhammad Zakir Ali Khan, Honorary General Secretary Aligarh Muslim University of Old Boys Association, who was also the chief guest said: “Jazib Qureshi is a distinguished poet who is also a good human being. Apart from poetry and books of criticism, his life is very touching and full of pathos.”
He criticised the increasing trend of people preferring English to Urdu, and stressed the need for serious efforts for the promotion of Urdu, especially in educational institutes, so as to protect and preserve the culture and traditions of this region.
Professor Dr Manzoor Ahmed opined that Qureshi’s poetry reveals new meanings and dimension if it is read in the perception of his life history.
Sarshar Siddiqui recalled his old association with the poet, and complimented him on his choice of words and use of specific diction.
Rukhsana Saba paid glowing tribute to Qureshi, and sketched out his literary career in her speech. Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan observed that Qureshi has always been serious and committed to his work. Mr Haseeb also read out the selected couplets from “Meri Shairee Meri Musavari”.
In his concluding remarks Jazib Qrueshi thanked all those individuals who had helped and supported him in publishing his books. He also announced bringing out a 800-page book containing articles, write-ups and critical essays on his writings in Urdu and English.
