Nine startups (3 from Pakistan) head to Myanmar’s Yangon as Digital Winners of Asia

(BE2C2 Report: Irshad Salim); Oct 28, 2016 — Digital Winners Asia – the first-ever regional startup event is being held in Myanmar on November 1-2.

Nine up-and-coming startups are participating in the two-day platform designed to enable participants to achieve scale across Asian markets. The list includes three Pakistani startups: Fori Mazdoori, Edjunction and EcoEnergy, and two from Bangladesh: Buzzally and Socian.

The last few years have shown a massive growth of the e-commerce market in Asia. According to eMarketer, 46% of the digital buyers worldwide are from Asia, however they represent only 17% of the region’s population.

The digital event has therefore sourced some of the top startup talents from Telenor’s leading accelerator programs from five Asian countries Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand and Malaysia to enable them tap into the Asian digital growth. The event will take place in Yangon, a city seen as an emerging player in Asia’s digital and technology scene.

Digital Winners Asia says it will bring the nine startups and top-tier speakers together over the course of two days to build and exercise the right skills, knowledge and tools to tackle digital business opportunities across markets.

Startup teams will be pitching for US$15,000 (100,000 Norwegian Kroner) in initial expansion fund on the closing day of the event.

Two representatives from each company will participate in Digital Winners Asia. Participants represent a diversity of industries: marketing services, energy, artificial intelligence, tourism and education.

Keynote speeches and market insight sessions will be given by leaders in market expansion and entrepreneurship in the region, such as Google, Golden Gate Ventures and Telenor Group’s Head of Product and Innovation, Gunnar Sellaeg.
