JUL 20, 2018: The head warden of Adiala jail in Rawalpindi was replaced after video showing him embracing convicted former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif came into notice.

The warden was deployed on duty at the barrack of Nawaz Sharif and was greatly fond of the former PM.

No one is allowed to access the barrack of Nawaz, however, the warden went inside and hugged Nawaz and received a pat on his back from the former premier.

Their meeting was noticed by the monitoring team from security cameras deployed in the jail. The administration was informed of the incident after which IG Prisons himself viewed the video and strictly warned the warden.

Both Nawaz and his daughter Maryam as well as Maryam’s spouse Safdar are serving sentences in the Adiala jail following the verdict of accountability court on July 6.

The accountability court handed down a 10-year jail term to the former prime minister, Maryam was given seven-year imprisonment while Capt (retd) Safdr was sentenced to one year in jail.

The PML-N is expecting that Sharif, Maryam and Safdar would get bail after making physical appearance at the IHC after July 25 election. After their surrender, the convicts are now required to appear in-person in the IHC to file appeal against the accountability court’s decision in Avenfield Apartments reference case.

The IHC can issue stay order against the accountability court’s decision and grant bail to the accused for a specific period or till the completion of trial.
