“If the Indian sub attempt thwarted by our Navy is of Kamorta-class, then it’s possible it could be fitted with Israeli Barak 8 LR-SAM missile defense system”, said one analyst.

PKONWEB Report (ISLAMABAD) — Pakistan Navy today successfully resisted Indian attempt to violate its maritime zone, said Spokesperson for the navy.

According to the spokesperson, the Pakistan Navy detected an Indian submarine and stopped it from entering into Pakistani waters. The Pakistan Navy, owing to its high professionalism, thwarted every single attempt of the Indian submarine to avoid being located in the seas.

Indian submarines were not targeted keeping in view the peace initiative, says Pakistan Navy.

The latest development comes after an increase in tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

“The Pakistan Navy is always ready to guards its territorial waters and is capable of responding to any kind of aggression with full force,” said the navy.

“This great achievement has been a proof of Pakistan Navy’s superior capabilities.” The armed service further said that this is the second time since November 2016 that naval forces have caught the Indian Navy trying to enter the country’s territorial waters.

“The Indian submarine was not targeted keeping in view Pakistan’s policy of peace,” said a spokesperson from the PN and added that India must learn from this incident and “move towards peace”.

A Pakistani defense official based in the Middle East told PKoweb on condition of anonymity that they expect the noise to continue till elections are held in India. “We are expecting it, and can defend, as was demonstrated, but India must talk of peace not war.”

The video of the Indian submarine was made when it came upto periscope depth, however, the PN would have been tracking it for a longer time with the assistance of aerial anti-submarine warfare assets.

According to a media report, India has mobilized at least three dozen combatants on war readiness in the Arabian Sea, including the first ever operational deployment of what the report said was “the cutting edge Scorpene-class submarine INS Kalvari“.

Kalvari is one of the six diesel-electric attack submarines (SSK).

However, “If the Indian sub attempt thwarted by our Navy is of Kamorta-class, then it’s possible it could be fitted with Israeli Barak 8 LR-SAM missile defense system”, said one analyst.

In May and October 2017, India signed contract with Israel for the supply of four Barak 8 LR-SAM systems to the Indian Navy.

The Barak 8 LR-SAM air and missile defense system will be installed aboard Visakhapatnam-class guided missile destroyers, Kolkata-class destroyers, Kamorta-class anti-submarine warfare corvettes, and Project 17A class of stealth frigates, as well as on the INS Vikrant, the service’s first indigenously built aircraft carrier.

As of October 2018, four Indian Navy warships have been fitted with the Barack 8 LR-SAM air and missile defense system, according to The Diplomat.

The Israeli-Indian jointly developed Barak 8 (land and marine) missile defense system is worth over $6 billion.
