Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal Holds Meeting With Saudi Counterpart in Jeddah
May 28, 2018 (DESPARDES/PKONWEB) — The Federal Minister for Interior and Planning, Development & Reform, Mr. Ahsan Iqbal, called on Saudi Minister of Interior, HRH Abdul Aziz bin Saud bin Nayef in Jeddah on Sunday.
The Saudi Interior Minister welcomed Mr. Iqbal to the Kingdom and expressed concern over the assassination attempt on Mr. Iqbal and inquired about his health.
The interior minister extended greetings and felicitations from the government and people of Pakistan. He thanked the Saudi Government for the strong expression of condemnation of the assassination attempt incident on him. He also thanked the Saudi Interior minister for inquiring about his health while in hospital.
During the meeting, both leaders discussed ways of coordinating bilateral cooperation between the Ministries of Interior of the two countries.
Iqbal appreciated the amnesty scheme 2017 under which a large number of Pakistani expatriates returned to Pakistan. Other matters relating to the Pakistani community in the Kingdom and those visiting the kingdom including immigration matters, transfer of prisoners, Umrah and Hajj facilitation were discussed. The Saudi Minister promised to look into all the issues and matters.
Both leaders also agreed to promote greater economic cooperation for further strengthening bonds between the two brotherly countries. Iqbal the oversees the $62 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.
According to his tweet, Iqbal also raised the issue of reduction in visa fees, exit permits for stranded Pakistanis and making biometrics for #pilgrims in Pakistan to facilitate smooth arrival in the Kingdom. Saudi Interior Minister promised positive action.
The Interior Minister was accompanied by Ambassador of Pakistan Khan Hasham Bin Saddique, Consul General Shahryar Akbar Khan and Deputy Consul General Shaiq Ahmed Bhutto.
Iqbal, who is on a private visit, also went to Madina and performed Umrah in Makkah.
