The six-wheeled KAPLAN MT, made by Turkey’s FNSS and Indonesia’s PT Pindad, was launched three years as part of a government-to-government cooperation program.

The companies said it features precision direct fire capability and a configuration power pack, heavy duty suspension system, double pin tracks and advanced electronic control systems that contribute to its superior maneuvering capability.

“This medium weight tank is a very effective solution to today’s asymmetric warfare conditions … which many armies are exposed to,” Nail Kurt, chief executive officer at FNSS, said in a press release.

The most anticipated projects at this year’s fair was the KAAN missile system produced by TSK-affiliated Roketsan AS and the TRG-300 (Tiger) Kaplan missiles, which was shown for the first time.

Another system making its debut at the fair was the Bora (Turkish for Storm) long-range missile that Turkey is developing by transferring the technology of China’s B 61-11-M model.

Bora will be Turkey’s first missile that can reach beyond 300 kilometers (186 miles).

Turkey is interested in developing its defense and aerospace industries for local and export. In 2008, its defense exports were only $600 million. In 2016, exports stood at $1.68 billion with aim to increase its defense industry-related exports to $25 billion by 2023.

At the four-day fair (May 9-12), Pakistan’s defense production departments including Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF), Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT), Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAE) and National Radio Telecommunication also showcased their products. The Minister for Defense Production Rana Tanveer Hussain was in Istanbul on a five-day official visit.
