Pakistani national nabbed with heroin worth Rs14 million at Sri Lanka’s Colombo airport

MAMOSA Report — A Pakistani national has been arrested at Sri Lanka’s Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake by the Police Narcotic Bureau when he tried to smuggle in heroin on Sunday, the Police Media Unit said.

The 27-year-old suspect traveling from Karachi had attempted to smuggle in a stock of heroin weighing 1.4 kg. The contraband was hidden in the false bottom of his bag.

The Sri Lanka Customs has seized the stock of heroin worth Rs14 million.

The suspect along with the stock of heroin has been handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB).

Sri Lanka Navy arrests 12 Indian fishermen for poaching in island waters

Sri Lanka Navy on Saturday has arrested 12 Indian fishermen and seized their two trawlers for allegedly crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and fishing in Sri Lankan waters.

The naval personnel onboard a Fast Attack Craft in the Northern Naval Command together with Sri Lanka Coast Guard arrested 12 Indian fishermen along with 2 fishing trawlers poaching in the Sri Lankan waters northwest of Delft Island yesterday (25).

The arrested fishermen are to be handed over to the Jaffna Assistant Director of Fisheries for onward legal action, the Navy said.

According to Indian media reports the arrest of the fishermen comes a few hours after an attack on around 2000 Tamil fishermen who were there in 400 boats by the SL navy with beer bottles, stones and iron rods. They have been attacked ahead of the Dhanushkodi region, according to an India Today report.
