SEP 22, 2018 (Updated): Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hanif Abbasi was shifted from Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail to Attock jail on Saturday.
The incarcerated PML-N leader was shifted to Attock jail on the directives of DIG Rawalpindi.
The Punjab government on Thursday had constituted a two-member team to probe breaking of jail rules to let jailed Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hanif Abbasi pay visit to incarcerated former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on the day of his release.
Action was supposed to be taken following the presentation of findings in 72 hours, officials had said according to officials a media report said.
The ‘leaked’ photos feature Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hanif Abbasi, incarcerated in connection with his involvement in ephedrine drug quota case, paying a ‘VVIP visit’ to Nawaz in prison on Wednesday –the day Sharifs were released in the evening after Islamabad High Court suspended their sentences earlier in the day.
The photos of the two holding meeting inside Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail Superintendant’s office– considered against prison norms, went viral on social media after it was uploaded on Facebook.
Earlier in July, an anti-narcotics court handed down a life term to Abbasi in the eight-year-old case. Seven other accused were given benefit of doubt.
ANF officials later arrested the PML-N leader, who stood disqualified from participating in the July 25 general elections post conviction, from the court. He was taken to Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail thereafter.
