KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s Rabita Committee on Wednesday claimed that terrorists from Qasba Colony, Banaras and Faqir Colony laced with modern weapons were looting and killing MQM workers and sympathizers by barging into their houses.
Addressing a press conference here, MQM leader Wasay Jalil said that the Urdu-speaking people were being targeted in the city while houses of MQM workers and sympathizers living near Banaras Katti Pahari are being set on fire.
Jalil said terrorists are resorting to firing by setting up bunkers in Muslimabad and Pirabad Society but added that police and Rangers are not taking any action against them. In this context he said, ‘The attitude of police and Rangers is very negative’.

LAHORE: Former Pakistani president Gen (R) Pervez Musharraf is expected to return to the country in September and announce his election manifesto. He has already formed his political party called All Pakistan Muslim League (APML)
Musharraf’s future plans were announced by All Pakistan Muslim League’s (APML) Chief Coordinator Chaudhry Shahbaz at a press conference held in Lahore Press Club on Sunday.
Shahbaz said the former president and ex-general will face all charges against him, adding that the government is even free to probe Nawab Akbar Bugti’s assassination and the Lal Masjid carnage.
The APML Coordinator also disclosed the merger of the All Pakistan Muslim League and PML-Q in the days ahead.
While APML is being led by the former president, PML-Q is being led by Ch Shujaat. In a related development, different factions of Muslim League are involved in backdoor negotiations to create a united Muslim League as a centrist party which may then take on the Peoples Party and PML-Nawaz in Punjab and Sindh.

NOWSHEHRA: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Chief Nawaz Sharif Sunday urged President Asif Ali Zardari not to undertake UK visit as planned at a time when the nation is undergoing a test due to flash floods and landslides.
Heavy flooding and rain countrywide has taken toll of more than 1000 people and left 1 million affected.
During his visit to Nowshera to assess the devastation caused by heavy floods in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Nawaz Sharif called upon the politicians to rise above political their interests and to extend every possible help to the victims of the calamity. The government should utilize all the available resources to deal with the flood situation, he added.
“I have never seen such widespread devastation across the country including Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa caused by the worst flooding in the country’s history,” the PML-N Chief noted.
He said no Pakistani should hold himself back from helping his fellow countrymen in this time of trial.
During his visit, Nawaz Sharif met with the affectees of the flood besides assessing the damage unleashed by the natural calamity.

A three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry today rejected the pleas of three parliamentarians for having used fake degrees to get elected in 2008 polls.
Two of the legislatures belong to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) – the second largest party in the country with government in Punjab.
Those whose appeals were dismissed by the apex Court included Haji Mudassar Qayyum Nehra, MNA of PML-N from NA-100 Gujranwala, Malik Yasir Raza, MPA of PML-N from PP-13 Rawalpindi and Mir Zahoor Hussain Khan Khoso, MPA elected from PB-26 Jaffarabad-II Balochistan.
The Election Commission of Pakistan was directed to proceed against the disqualified legislators under the law laid down in its decision on Rizwan Gill and for violating Representation of Peoples Act 1976.
The ECP was also asked to make arrangements for holding by-elections on these constituencies under relevant election provisions.
In the matter of Maulvi Mohammad Sarwar of JUI-F who is Balochistan minister for labour and manpower, the Higher Education Commission was ordered to verify his educational qualifications and authenticity of his Sanad of and to submit a report by August 13.
The bench also remanded election pleas on NA: 263 Loralai-cum-Mashkhal-cum-Barkhan, PB-17 Barkhan, PB-20 Killa Saifullah and PB-60 to concerned election tribunals of the province.
The three-member bench comprises of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Khalil ur Rehman Ramday.
