(PKONWEB Report) — The The United States of America and Pakistan strongly condemned the dangerous Houthi missile attacks aimed at several cities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Sunday night.
One person was killed after seven missiles were fired from Yemen by the Houthi rebels, CNN reported.
The missiles were fired at four targets, including the capital city of Riyadh, and all were intercepted and destroyed, said Saudi coalition forces spokesman Col. Turki al-Maliki in a statement. Fragments from the intercepted missiles killed an Egyptian resident, the statement added.
“These hostile acts continue to pose a direct threat to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and threaten regional, as well as international, security,” the statement said.
Of the seven missiles, three were aimed at the Saudi capital city of Riyadh, one was headed toward the southwest in Khamis Mushait, one along the southern border targeting Najran and two for the southern city of Jizan, according to CNN citing Saudi sources.
In a press statement issued today, spokesperson of the US Department of State Heather Nauert said: “Our condolences go out to the family of the victim. The United States supports our Saudi partners’ right to defend their borders against these threats.”
“We continue to call on all parties, including the Houthis, to return to political negotiations and move toward ending the war in Yemen,” she added.
Pakistan commended the Government of Saudi Arabia for destroying the missiles and limiting the casualties.
On Sunday, the Saudi air force intercepted a missile over the northeastern part of the capital Riyadh, Saudi state television said.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: “Pakistan commends the Government of Saudi Arabia for destroying the missiles and limiting the casualties.”
The government of Pakistan reiterated its full support and solidarity with the “leadership, the government and people of Saudi Arabia against any threats to its territorial integrity and against the Haramain Sharifain.”
The attack was separately condemned by Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif on social media.
Asif tweeted: “We strongly condemn missile attack on Saudi Arabia.Pakistan remains fully committed to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom.”
Egypt also strongly condemned the missile attacks carried out by Houthi Militias against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which were intercepted by the Saudi Royal Air Defense Forces, confirming its support for any measures taken by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to maintain its security.
In a statement issued by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Egypt affirms its firm stance in supporting the Arab states’ sovereignty against any sabotage or terrorist attempts.
