Afghanistan’s national U19 cricket team made history on Sunday when they humbled their Pakistani rivals to scoop the Asia Youth Cup trophy in Malaysia.
The team won by a huge margin of 185 runs, with Ikram Ali Khelof making a century.
This comes after the country’s national team defeated UAE, Pakistan and in the semi-finals Nepal during the group competition.
Man of the match was Ikram Ali Khelof with 107 not out.
Mujeeb Zadran took an overall 20 wickets in the tournament and named best player of the tournament.
Minutes after their win, Afghan CEO Abdullah Abdullah congratulated the team via Twitter, report TOLO News.
“I feel proud to congratulate our nation on this very unique, rare and prideful occasion of our country’s cricket as Afghanistan’s U19 clinches historic win over Pakistan at the ACC U-19 Asia Cup and lifts the trophy for the first time in the history.”
Afghan President Ashraf Ghani congratulates the U19 cricket team for their historic win in the Asia Youth Cup. Ghani said on Twitter: “Congratulations to our U19 heroes for a very comprehensive win. They are now the new Asian champions. I am very proud of them.”
