AUG 15, 2018: PM-in-waiting Imran Khan is unlikely to wear a new Sherwani when he takes oath as prime minister on August 18, a local media outlet reported on Tuesday. Earlier, on social media, the new-versus-old sherwani chatter made rounds.
“who thinks that Prime Minister (in waiting) Imran Khan will bother wearing a sherwani at his oath taking as PM? “I think he is making his trademark white dress and Peshawari chappal the new national dress! (and why not! How many can afford a sherwani anyway), tweeted Taimur Malik.
PTI spokesman Fawad Chaudhry tweeted: IK will wear Sherwani. Will continue legacy of Quaid e Azam.
Quaid e Azam –the founding father, had taken oath of the highest office in Sherwani.
An order had been placed for Khan Sahib’s Sherwani but was cancelled as part of his austerity drive. An order for a waistcoat was then placed but that was cancelled as well.
According to reports, Imran Khan will wear a Sherwani in accordance with tradition but not a new one. He’s also expected to wear Jinnah cap, one source said.
The sherwani and Jinnah cap could become a trendsetter say some fashionistas just as Z A Bhutto’s Shalwar and Kameez style in the 70s.
