LAHORE: A number of visitors thronged the Nairang Art Gallery to see the works of young photographers from different backgrounds at an exhibition titled ‘Darkroom’ on Wednesday.
The exhibited photographs by Aliya Bilgrami, Momin Zafar and Nashmia Haroon contained long-range exposures of the moon, lively snaps of the Gadani Port junkyard and depicted the uncertainty enveloping the country. The gallery’s curator Sheraz Faisal told Daily Times that the trio were famous for their aesthetic sense and ingenious style among the young artists and photographers of the country, and the exhibition was aimed to place these people into the limelight and introduce them to the mainstream art arena.
He said Aliya Bilgrami’s photographs depicted different moves of the moon captured through a technique called long exposure. He said her works were appreciated by the visitors because of their softness, romanticism and mystic touch.
He said the idea was unique in its style because the milky light surrounding the moon in the pictures was spellbinding for observers and left a soothing effect on their moods.
Momin Zafar successfully exposed the beauty behind dull and rustic things, symbolising the problems of routine life. Most of his photographs give the impression of a painting revealing eye-catching colours of rust and rot iron. He is a graduate of the Indus Valley School of Art, Karachi.
Nashmia Haroon endeavours to highlight the uncertainty surrounding the country in terms of economic, political and social crisis. The artist has taken pictures of different decorated buildings on August 14 and used long exposure and other techniques to give an unclear look or a certain angle to make her point.
Nashmia is a graduate of the National College of Arts and has a vast experience of photography in different styles. The exhibition will continue until August 31.
