RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi police have formed a special unit for war against the terrorism and training of the first batch of this unit would start after Eidul Azha at Sihala Police Training College, said Regional Police Officer (RPO) Aslam Tareen on Wednesday.
“The law-enforcement agencies have got significant leads during the investigations of terrorists activities in the twin cities and we are expecting a breakthrough soon,” the RPO claimed.
He was talking to newsmen after the prize distribution ceremony at end of 50th Course of Driving Training Institute of City Traffic Police.
Rawalpindi Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Akhter Abbas, SP Ishtiaq Shah and SP Potohar Kamran Adil were also present on this occasion.
The RPO said the security of the garrison city had been put on high alert to avoid any untoward situation and the regional police had been directed to make foolproof arrangements in and around the cattle markets during the Eidul Azha.
He said during the operation Rah-e-Nijaat, the security forces had broken the back of terrorists and destroyed their safe havens. He said the Rawalpindi region police had taken special security measures to avoid any terrorist activity.
He said the police and law-enforcers had got important information during the search operations in Rawalpindi.
He said the police were also compiling data of property dealers, car dealers and the residents of the garrison city to provide foolproof security to the people.
Earlier, addressing the gathering, the RPO urged the traffic wardens to improve their public dealing and work hard to provide better traffic facilities in the city.
He said tolerance was a must for the drivers to avoid road accidents. He directed traffic wardens to be polite to road users while dealing with them. He said they should enforce traffic laws without any discrimination as no one was above the law.
The RPO lauded the overall performance of traffic wardens and appreciated the efforts of CTO Rawalpindi for making Driving Training Institute of City Traffic Police successful. He said it was heartening to know that corruption level was zero among traffic wardens.
In his welcome address, the CTO said the traffic police were committed to provide public-friendly service and ensure the smooth flow of traffic in the city.
He said traffic education was important for the motorists and they have started a campaign to educate the motorists about traffic rules.
He said the traffic rules were being taught at the driving training institute. He said 4,000 motorists had completed their driving courses at this institute. (News sourced from: Daily Times)
