Two cars escorting Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry’s motorcade collided with each other late on Monday, when their drivers had to suddenly apply breaks after a vehicle in front of them suddenly stopped near the Islamabad toll plaza on Kashmir Highway. The vehicle carrying the CJ was not involved in the accident, but two officials suffered minor injuries.
Because of the incident, two traffic policemen have been arrested and an In-charge Inspector has been suspended. A show-cause notice has also been issued to the concerned Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).
Justice Iftikhar was on his way to Islamabad from Lahore via the motorway when the accident took place when his motorcade was hit by another vehicle coming from the opposite direction. The vehicles of his caravan collided with each other – however CJP and his family members did not sustain any injuries in the mishap.
A high-level investigation committee has been set up to probe the incident, specially as to why a vehicle was parked the wrong way on the route of the CJP.
CJ Iftikhar visited PIMS and Polyclinic Hospitals and inquired about the health of his staff members who got hurt in the accident.
