It is unfortunate that we are hearing this talk of the break-up of Pakistan again. This seems like a replay of the East Pakistan tragedy. We must not forget to ask ourselves the question: “what did the Bengalis, Punjabis, Sindhis, Pathans, Baluchs, Muhajirs, and Kashmiris have in common when Pakistan was established in 1947.” The obvious answer is: Islam. There was no other reason for the British to create two separate States. They could have left one India under a secular government to rule over all the different religious groups.
As we all know once Pakistan was established secularism replaced Islam and the glue that brought Pakistan into being in the first place vanished. There was now no reason for the Bengalis to be a part of Pakistan. Similarly if you take Islam out, there is no reason for the Sindhis, Pathans, Punjabis etc. to be part of one union. As a matter of fact Pakistan then has no case with regards to Kashmir. The only claim Pakistan has on Kashmir is on the basis of Islam.
If Muslims were going to adopt secularism as their creed, and pay lip service to Islam, they could have done the same in secular India. The danger to Pakistan is the secular elite. Whenever Muslims have left Islam in favor of secularism they have gone down. Turkey is a classic example. The Turks abandoned Islam and turned to secularism, bringing disgrace and humiliation upon themselves. From being a world power under Islam, they became an outcaste State in Europe under secularism.
Europe had a different experience. Under Christianity they went into the Dark Ages. When the Europeans rejected Christianity and turned to secularism they progressed. Our Western educated leaders have the European model in mind. They think that since Europe progressed without Christianity, Muslims will do likewise without Islam. What they do not know is that Islam is based upon Divine Revelation, while Christianity and other faiths are not. Those who love Pakistan should study the history dispassionately and decide for themselves
Benazir Shaheed delivered the Peoples Party to her teenage son vide her Will and until Bilawal comes of age and Mr. Zardari is his Regent titled Co-Chairman. What all this has to do with the Democracy.
This chain of explicitly categorical repeated statements of Peoples Party’s responsible ministers onto and including the party’s Co-Chairman Asif Zardari, who is also the incumbent President of Pakistan and the Supreme Commander of its Armed Forces can not and should not be taken as mere emotional outbursts and must be taken utmost seriously.
In the past those who dare to even mildly mention or obliquely indicate something giving such a sense were labelled as Traitors and treated accordingly. No one on any pretext should be allowed to dare utter these words.
